Motorcycle Tour C - Delightful Dolomites
- the route
As for most of our tours this year we cross
Dover/Calais and ‘hot-wheel’ it through France and
Germany to the ‘very centre’ of the Dolomites -
Cortina d’Ampezzo. That most famous of
Dolomites views, the vertical rock face in the pink
evening light, will be visible from your hotel room.
We’re here for four nights because Cortina is
surrounded by a host of passes, all of them with
superb surfaces, making for brilliant riding. Do you
like the sound of Passo di Falzarego, Passo di
Campolungo, Passo di Pordoi? But these are only
three of the biggies. Let us also show you many
more, lesser known, but possibly more exciting,
and certainly less busy. Most of your company on
these will be other bikes, but please don’t let your
competitive spirit get the better of you!!
It would be difficult to exhaust the possibilities
round Cortina (incidentally a very attractive town
in its own right) but, as is our style, we move on to
a much more ‘secret’ region for a couple of nights.
Here we introduce you to a very curly pass, with
brand new asphalt - very challenging. But if you did
fancy a bit of exercise on feet, then very close by is
an area with the most incredible rock formations
you can imagine. In fact the hotel here takes its
name from them. Wait and see!
Our next move takes us across the beautiful
Trento valley, through miles of fruit orchards and
over a pass with staggering views over the valley.
We are at this next centre for four nights again and
we'll let you guess why. The town itself is very
attractive, if a tad touristy, with loads of interesting
caff's, bars, restaurants and shops (a bit of window
shopping eh?).
After this I'm afraid we're on the back 'straight'
through Austria, Germany and France to the ferry.
